If you’ve had multiple teeth knocked out, or if you’ve lost several teeth to tooth decay, it can have a negative impact on your oral function and quality of life. Beyond impairing your ability to efficiently chew food, it can also slur your speech and mar your physical appearance.

Your dentist, Dr. Wallace Lunden, has several different restorative dental treatments that can address a problem like this. One of the least invasive treatments is to fit you for a custom partial denture.

This is basically an abbreviated form of dentures that corresponds to the shape and location of the missing teeth. It can be removed at your convenience and reinstalled to restore the function of your mouth. The artificial teeth are set into a base that mimics the appearance of your gum tissue, which also serves as a foundation to hold the replacement teeth tightly in your mouth.

Dr. Wallace Lunden will start by examining your mouth and taking a few X-rays to assess any other questionable teeth. If he finds that additional teeth in the area are compromised, they might also need to be extracted.

Once all questionable teeth have been addressed, Dr. Wallace Lunden will cast a detailed impression of the area. This includes the surrounding gums, neighboring teeth and the corresponding teeth in your bite. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab where your new partial will be custom made to match your mouth.

While this will give the partial denture a secure hold, many partial denture wearers still like to use denture adhesive. Not only does this help lock the appliance in place, but it also helps prevent stray food particles from infiltrating the bond between the partial and the gums.

If you are missing multiple teeth in one area of your mouth, you should call Cedar Point Dentistry at 612-822-2176 to see if you’re a good candidate for a partial denture in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
